School Address

Thank you for your emails, it's great to hear from every one, it's surreal being here. It's pretty hard because it's quite disorganised. I'm the art teacher here and there aren't many resources, no curriculum or any guidance really. I'll have to figure out more stuff to be sent I think.
If you have anything helpful to send, the address is

School of St Jude's
c/o Emily McKenzie-Kay
PO Box 11875
Arusha, Tanzania
East Africa

When you are sending stuff make sure it is less than 2 kilos and labelled as worth less than $20 and is somthing like used textbooks, clothing or school supplies otherwise there are taxes and bribes to pay at this end which can be any amount.

I think the volunteers who have been here for a while are tired of answering new people's questions so you just get left to your own devices and try and figure things out the best you can. Plus they have quite thick friendship groups established which is hard.
I still don't have any food or water to my name as I have no local currency. I'm a bit scared to go into the main town cos my Swahili is non-existent plus I don't have the means to go, not as many people as I thought speak English so I have to learn Swahili. I'm a bit in denial about it all still. I'm hoping that when I start teaching tomorrow I'll be more enthused and happy about being here. It's all so different.

I ate the school lunch today and it was OK but there was a vege I really didn't like called okra. It was so slimy.
Everyone seems pretty laid back and no one's stressed about anything it seems and I've been told just to go with the flow.

People have been talking about safari and asking when I'm going... I still haven't been to town yet so I think I'll wait til I'm more settled. I can't believe how hard it is for me, I feel like such a wuss.
Time will help, I'm sure.
Miss you all,
love Emily
